What is an app?

App is an abbreviated form of the word "application." An application is a software program that's designed to perform a specific function directly for the user or, in some cases, for another application program.

Different types of apps include:

Web app: stored on a remote server and delivered over the Internet through a browser interface.

Native app: has been developed for use on a particular platform or device.

Hybrid app: combines elements of both native and Web applications. Hybrid apps are often mentioned in the context of mobile computing.

What does it mean if an app is officially supported?

Staff members using an officially supported app can expect to receive assistance with setup, troubleshooting, and other needs from the BHBL I.T. Department. As a district, we are committed to making these apps available for long-term use.

Some apps may be approved for use but not officially supported. This means that the BHBL I.T. Department will be able to offer only limited support and basic troubleshooting. Furthermore, apps that are not supported may not be available for long-term use for a number of reasons, including:

The district may undergo technological changes that render these apps unusable.

The app provider may no longer support or update their own app.
